If you suspect there may be asbestos in the walls, ceilings or floors of your home, you may have been told you need to look into asbestos testing.

If you are not sure what asbestos testing is or why it is so important, however, you may also be wondering if this is necessary.

In fact, it is. Especially if you believe there is a good chance you may have asbestos on your premises, as it really can be a dangerous substance.

Why is asbestos dangerous? — If you have asbestos in your home, over time small particles can break off from the main sheet and end up in the air you breathe.

If you breathe the article into your lungs, it could lodge in them and remain there. This can cause breathing problems and complications and, in some instances, even cause lung cancer.

This is why asbestos testing is so important. So that you know if you have asbestos and, if so, how to get rid of it.

How to get asbestos testing — There are several companies that offer it.

Contact a few of them for free quotes before choosing one, and then make an appointment with the one that has the best rates.

How is asbestos testing done? — A technician will come to your home and go around every room taking air samples and samples of material in walls, under sinks, in your attic if you have one and in the basement.

These samples will be put into small vials and then dropped off at a local lab where they will be tested for asbestos. Test results usually take about two days to receive.

Should the test results prove you have asbestos in your home, you will then be contacted to be told about various options for removal.
